Best Bakeries of Sydney
Sydney has become the bakery capital of Australia. Here are some of our favourite bakeries:
1. Bourke St Bakery
Bourke St Bakery is an iconic bakery and cafe institution in Sydney with perennial queues out the door. Sydneysiders can't get enough of this fare, baked fresh and with captivating gourmet allure. The Chocolate and rasberry muffins are outstanding, as are the toasted sandwiches which are massive. Namely Chicken, Pickled Celery, Emmental Cheese, Crispy Pancetta & Lemon Tarragon Mayo on White Sourdough... So goooood! Worth lining up for... And the humble Toasted Ham and cheese croissant is turned into something amazing...
2. Adrian Zumbo Patissier
A zenith of cakes, patries, tarts and sophisticated modern sweet creations. Sakuteiki Cake is an artistic masterpiece with its asymmetrical design. We felt it was such a unique offering on the artisan bakery scene. A black tower consists of a mandarin jelly, lime dacquoise, yuzu ganache, sakura mousse, green tea sponge and a green tea biscuit crunch. Many of the items at Zumbo have a mousse component, including this one (why you can't have these items in your car for hours in summer). The mousse and the crunch were a great contrast with green tea nuances. Zumbo has become a TV sensation with his wicked sweet treat challenges.
Pollock Nights stand out in gleaming black and white, and who would have thought there would be coconut and passionfruit delicacy under the dark exterior. The alluring Secret Carrots Business is a variation of carrot cake with Zumbo bringing in mousse and cheescake along with carrot components. The Aero cake is a study in texture. Everything is technically and texturally brilliant, with perfect balance and taste to inspire. Groundbreaking.
3. Black Star Pastry
Black Star Pastry is the centre of bakery treat excellence with its famous Chocolate eclairs and the Strawberry Watermelon Cake, the amazing donuts and cronuts and pies and other pastries. Layers baby. Christopher The and his team are on fire. The Strawberry Watermelon Cake is the most famous with its fresh, light and fragrant appeal. The cake consists of two layers of almond dacquoise, fresh whipped cream, watermelon, Strawberries, Iranian pistachios and rose petals. It is Gluten free and requires refrigeration. 4. Brewtown Newtown
Brewtown Newtown captures the imagination with its Elvis Burger (he would have been proud and if he's alive he'd be heading for this place) and its stunning pastries like the Orange blossom cruffin. The upstairs patisserie kicks some goals and the coffee offerings are sensational. Cruffins, donuts and brewnuts are the deal. Bakery fix but also brunch destination.
